Healthy on the inside and beautiful on the outside:

The Healthy Ohio initiative helps Ohio residents focus on the importance of staying healthy. While it is important to stay healthy on the inside, what about being healthy on the outside?

Most large retailers have departments called “health and beauty.” To some this may seem like a misnomer because you can be healthy and not considered beautiful. However, being healthy can help solve many beauty problems. Here are some healthy habits that can an effect on appearance.

A good night’s sleep

Many people attribute not sleeping enough with those unsightly bags under one’s eyes. But not getting enough shut-eye can have another surprising effect—weight gain. A hormone called Leptin signals the body that it has enough food. When a person does not sleep enough, there is not enough of this hormone made. This can lead to overeating and obesity.

Drinking water

One of the best beauty products on the market is also one of the most beneficial products for good health. Water promotes good circulation which prevents wrinkles. Water also hydrates the body and not getting enough water can lead to dry skin. Water also helps eyes appear more vibrant. It is recommended that everyone drink at least eight glasses of water a day. That does not include soda, which can have a negative effect on the body.

A healthy diet

Many people talk about the ‘glow’ that many pregnant women have. While some of that may be from the joy of impending motherhood, it can also be attributed to the vitamins that a woman takes while she is pregnant. The additional folic acid and B vitamins result in shinier hair and healthier nails. Many women choose to continue taking the prenatal vitamins after their pregnancy because of their benefits.
